BCA Ohio Hospital for Psychiatry’s Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit is designed to provide the highest quality, individualized clinical care for older adults requiring mental health care.

 

What makes us different?
At OHP, The Generations Program is dedicated to the psychiatric treatment for older adults. Under the medical direction of Christopher Corner, M.D., our 18 bed unit offers a comfortable environment for older adults experiencing symptoms, including but not limited to, complications with memory loss, depression, and medical management issues. The Generations Program at OHP is the only Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit in Franklin County.


Generations offers the following services:


• 24/7 intake availability; 614-444-7472 (PIRC)
• Expedient admission process
• Average length of stay 10-14 days
• Individualized inpatient needs
• Round the clock coverage provided by Registered Nurses
• Internist availability 24 hours per day
• Diagnostic Summary within 48 hours after discharge
• Social Work/Discharge Planning
• Follow up reviews to determine stability
• Open visitation

• Nursing & Social Work Assessments
• Medical Monitoring
• Psychiatric Services
• Dietary Consultations
• Recreational and Aerobic Activities
• Music & Art Therapy

 

 

Treatment Team is composed of:


• Patient & Family
• Psychiatrist & General Practitioner
• Generations Clinical Director
• Social Worker/Therapist
• Nurse
• Mental Health Associate/STNA
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Therapist
• Other Physicians and workers as needed on an individual basis: Dieticians, Case Worker, Guardian, etc.

 

Admission Criteria/Patient Profile:


• Typical age is over 55, but is determined on a case-by-case basis
• Depression
• Sudden onset of hallucinations, delusions or paranoia
• Noncompliance with prescribed psychiatric health regimen
• Potential danger to self and/or others
• Sudden change in ability to attend to normal daily activities
• Modification of psychotropic drugs
• Cognitive impairments (Dementia, Delirium)

 

Referral Information
Referrals to our Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit can be made by family, physicians, psychiatrist, emergency departments, friends, mental health professionals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other caring individuals or agencies. If admission is appropriate, patients will be admitted by our Medical Director, Christopher Corner M.D. Qualified patients are covered by Medicare and most major health insurance plans. At OHP, we have simplified our admission process. Our goal is to assure safety and not create any undue stress to our patients and families.
